Lament and Lullaby (2008) ca. 8 min. string orchestra Premiered 14 June, 2008 by the Sudbury Youth Orchestra in Sudbury, ON, Canada. Lament and Lullaby was commissioned by Jamie Arrowsmith and the Sudbury Youth Orchestra (Sudbury, ON). The piece is as the title suggests: a lament and a lullaby that interact and merge throughout. The lament was inspired in part by the fantastic body of English literature for the string orchestra. The lullaby (more personally) was written for my mother’s dog, Logan. He was put to sleep on her birthday in 2006. |
